USA Hockey Affiliate
Our Mission with USA Hockey
AHAI (Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois) is the official Illinois Affiliate of USA Hockey, the national governing body for amateur hockey in the United States. This affiliation connects Illinois players, coaches, officials, and Clubs to the larger framework that governs the game across the country. By aligning with USA Hockey, AHAI helps ensure that hockey in Illinois is consistent, fair, and in line with national standards for development and player safety.
Through this partnership, every Illinois player and coach who registers with AHAI is also registered with USA Hockey. This dual registration provides access to USA Hockey’s wide range of resources, including skill development programs, coaching certifications, officiating education, and insurance coverage. It also allows Illinois teams to compete in USA Hockey–sanctioned leagues and tournaments, with opportunities to advance to District and National Championships.
As the governing body for hockey in Illinois, AHAI oversees all levels of play, from Tier I AAA and Tier II travel programs to Tier III house leagues, high school hockey, girls’ programs, adult leagues, and disabled hockey. In partnership with USA Hockey, AHAI provides structure and guidance to Member Organizations, ensuring that every player in Illinois has the chance to participate in the game safely, competitively, and with opportunities to grow.
Central District
AHAI is a proud member of the USA Hockey Central District, which also includes Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Together, these states collaborate on regional development camps, player advancement opportunities, and district-level competition. Being part of the Central District strengthens Illinois hockey by connecting it to a broader network of programs and pathways that extend beyond state boundaries.
