Player Development Camp

By Player Development Committee, 03/24/24, 7:45PM CDT

All Tier 1, Tier II, Prep and High School Varsity players within the 07, 08, 09, and 10 birth years were eligible for consideration to attend the 2024 AHAI Player Development Evaluation/Tryout Camp. The evaluation process started in late January with an online ranking of each of the age-appropriate players. All head coaches were asked to rank the “best” players in the state at a particular age group based on the players' performance they saw during this past season.

Following these online rankings, the AHAI Player Development Committee conducted an evaluation meeting, and based on these rankings selected 36 forwards, 24 defensemen, and 8 goalies at each eligible birth year to be invited to attend the AHAI Player Development Evaluation/Tryout Camp. The Camp will be held April 12 - 14 at the Mt. Prospect Ice Arena. Participating players will be evaluated based on the body of work that earned them an invitation to the AHAI 2024 Player Development Camp and their on-ice skills and effort shown during this year’s Player Development Camp.

The format for the 2010 birth year players will consist of one game on Friday night and a total of three games played between Saturday and Sunday. The format for the 2007, 2008 and 2009 birth year players will be one game on Friday night and two games on Saturday. After the last game on Saturday, 34 players will be selected by the evaluators, within each of those three birth years, to see who will play in the “Final 34” game on Sunday. Players will need to check the AHAI website on Saturday night as the names of those selected players and their game times for Sunday morning will be posted.

Following the conclusion of the Camp, a select number of players from the 07, 08, and 09 birth years will be invited to attend the Central District Tryout Festival on May 10 – 12 in Iowa against other players selected at their respective Affiliate’s Player Development Tryout Camps.  The USAH Central District is comprised of six (6) states: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. From this Central District Camp players will be selected to attend the USA Hockey National Camp. The players selected at the 2010 birth year will be invited to attend a week-long Player Development Camp at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in June.
