Jude Mobile was unbreakable in goal for Lake Forest on Sunday, March 16, in the AHAI High School State Hockey Championship (JV), played at the United Center.
Mobile stopped everything shot his way by Providence Catholic, leading the Scouts to a 2-0 win for the title.
“It was a phenomenal experience, a lot of fun. I could not be happier for our program, for our players and for our community. Everyone has been excited for this game; it was a lot of fun,” said Scouts JV head coach Mike McCann. “The game met expectations and exceeded them.
“The difference was, we were able to bear down as a team. When things didn’t go our way, we re-focused and didn’t let it affect our game.”
McCann said both teams were tense at the start, which affected play early on. But, as the game went on, “players started to settle down, which started with our goalie, who was phenomenal, making big saves.”
Mobile had a “big game,” McCann said. “He was aggressive, played the puck well, was seeing it well. He was smart with the puck and was strong, too.”
The Scouts went 25-5 in the 11-team Scholastic Hockey League, finishing in second-place, five points behind Loyola. Aidan Carruthers was the SHL’s leading scorer (33 goals in 35 games), and his 42 points was second-most in the league.
Carruthers scored the game-winner at the United Center.
“I was happy to see Aiden get a goal today; I was excited for him to get a goal in the championship game,” McCann said.
Cal Eggers netted the Scouts second goal five-hole.
McCann said the third period was “a bit nerve-racking” before the Scouts celebrated.
“I’m really happy and proud they were able to do this,” McCann said.
