Over the last 6 years, AHAI, along with USA Hockey, has focused on developing strategies on making the game available for more individuals while at the same time making the the game more fun for each participant.
With the support of the NHL, USA Hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks, AHAI has implemented several new programs to ensure the success of these strategies.
These include implementing required practice-to-game ratios at the youth levels, gradually eliminating the various levels of the Mire State Tournament, providing assistance and grants to implement cross ice programs and providing grants for youth associations to purchase starter One Goal equipment sets.
In addition, the Minor Hawks program has been established to grow hockey at the entry level through Learn-to-Skate/Play programs such as the Minor Hawks program.
In addition to these initiatives, AHAI has focused on making the game more fun for all of their participants through improved coaching and referee clinics/seminars and re-focusing their administrative efforts towards this end.
AHAI has embraced Hockey Weekend Across America in February as one of its strategies to bring new players out to the rinks to try our sport.
AHAi will continue to improve on these strategies while developing new stragies to move our game to a higher level for the betterment of all of its participants.
We hope you join us in this movement.
